For PCF or IDF files received in batches, CTO utility helps you keep them separate but still within the same job.
If your project involves a lot of 3D model files, they might be provided in batches. So for example, you might receive three folders full of files. Suppose the folders are called Area1, Area2 and Area3. In that case, copy the folders into the Estimate folder.
Then use the CTO utility to copy the files up one level. This gives you files named along the lines of:
Area1_File1.idf
Area1_File2.idf
Area1_File3.idf
Area2_File1.idf
Area2_File2.idf
This makes it easier to keep track of each batch separately, as the filenames will sort in a logical order when they are used for an estimate.
